The 2015/2016 School Transportation Grant Program Is CLOSED:
All Categories Are Full!

If you have questions regarding the grants, please contact Dayna Jalkanen at 614/728-2697 or djalkanen@ohiostatehouse.org. The Capitol Square Foundation has created a transportation grant program with generous gifts from the Honda of America Mfg., Inc. The program is designed to help schools defray bus transportation expenses to the Ohio Statehouse Museum Education Center. The grants are based on one-way mileage from your school to Columbus.

Please thoroughly read the information below, and then complete the online application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Funds are limited, and all grants are approved on a first come-first served basis. The grant funds are issued as reimbursements after your visit is completed.

Who Can Apply
Any Ohio school that receives state funding. However, grants are limited to Ohio students in the 4th through 12th grades during the 2015/2016 school year. Classes below the 4th grade are not eligible.  Only one grant will be awarded to each school regardless of the number of buses or students.

Where Do I Apply?
Applications must be submitted, online, through this page of the Ohio Statehouse website by an authorized teacher or school administrator. Only online applications are accepted. To optimize the performance of the Ohio Statehouse website, CSRAB recommends individuals use Google Chrome web browser. Additionally, CSRAB suggests applicants refresh their web browser frequently while on the School Transportation Grant Program page.

How Many Grants Are Available?
There are 75 grants available with twenty -five (25) grants awarded in each of the three categories listed below. (See "How is the Grant Amount Determined?")

How Is the Grant Amount Determined?
Check the box on the online application that corresponds to the distance one-way from your school to the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus. Please note that the boxes indicate mileage for one-way trips.  Mileage for a one-way trip from your school to Statehouse:
1 to 50 miles. . . . . . . . $ 200.00 reimbursement; CATEGORY FULL
51 to 100 miles. . . . . . . $ 300.00 reimbursement; CATEGORY FULL
101+ miles . . . . . . . . . $ 400.00 reimbursement; CATEGORY FULL
Twenty-five (25) trips will be awarded in each of the three categories for a total of 75 grants. When the 25 grants have been awarded, that category is closed to applications.

When Is The Application Deadline?
All grants are awarded on a first come-first served basis. The application process will remain open until all the funds have been awarded.

When And How Will I Be Reimbursed?
The Capitol Square Foundation will reimburse schools within 21 business days after their visit to the Ohio Statehouse Museum Education Center. Reimbursements will be made by check and visits made after Aug. 1, 2015 will be eligible for reimbursement for this school year. This retroactive reimbursement policy is due to the timing of the 2015/2016 Transportation Grant application process.  Please be sure to indicate to whom the check is to be written.

Thank you SO very much. We are a district in Appalachia (Columbiana County) and are currently in Fiscal Emergency. Without this grant we would not be able to visit.

Dear Mr. Hayden, On behalf of the eighth grade students and attending staff of Napoleon Middle School, I would like to express our gratitude for the opportunity to travel to Columbus to visit our statehouse. Everything was first class and very educational. The spirit of goodwill and pride in the building was palpable.
Please let the Capital Square Foundation, Honda, and Walmart know that their generous travel grant made it possible for our eighth graders to take their first field trip in five years and afforded us the opportunity to not only visit our beautiful Capitol but also COSI.
Again, thank you.
Best Regards,
Jamie Bostelman

Thank You! We are very excited!

Hello,
We went on the tour yesterday, May 16th. It was a very good experience for our students. Thank you. Do we need to do anything to receive the grant money?
Thanks again,
Theresa Valerius
